ABOUT US

A message from our founder...

Mjavo was born out of a love for accessories and the desire to have more fun with your hair. Celebrate your individuality and embrace experimentation whilst being mindful of our planet. We're just getting started and plan to expand our collections and offerings in the near future.

"I’ve always struggled with loving my hair. I have quite fine strands, which can make fun hairstyles tricky to pull off,” says Felicia T, founder of Mjavo.

"Hair and accessories are supposed to be fun. There are no rules—dare to explore, try new things, and believe in yourself. I want to dress interestingly, and accessories are a great place to start for anyone."

The ease of adding a hair claw to make an outfit more interesting really resonated with Felicia. However, she grew tired of wearing plastic in her hair and struggled to find sustainable alternatives that were also well-designed. That's where Mjavo and biodegradable acetate come in.

Our materials

Biodegradable Acetate

At Mjavo, sustainability and responsibility are our starting points for every project. We use biodegradable acetate instead of plastics that persist for centuries. Felicia T, founder of Mjavo, reflects,

"How many claw clips have I owned that broke or got lost, never to decompose? With biodegradable acetate, we have a durable, beautiful material that eventually leaves no trace. It's a creative material allowing for endless colors, shapes, and patterns. We've had so much fun developing our first line of products."

Unlike plastic, which can cause hair breakage and split ends, acetate is a gentler alternative that won't damage your hair.

Tech and creativity

Navigating male dominate spaces

Felicia spent over a decade in the tech industry, building and launching apps and financial technologies. Despite her success, she never felt creatively fulfilled or deeply passionate about her work. Often, she was the only woman in senior meetings. Felicia notes,

“In my career, I've observed that women often don’t receive the same recognition as men, despite their skills and contributions. Improving the situation for women can positively impact all identities. While we might not change the world overnight, if even one person feels more empowered to speak up, it's a step forward. At Mjavo, we’re committed to female leadership and empowerment, striving to go beyond mere diversity to truly support and uplift a range of voices.”

One Claw Clip at a time

True authenticity

Eventually, not being able to be her authentic self took a toll, and Felicia knew it was time for a change.

“I knew I had more to give and was eager to channel my creative energy and passion,” she says.

Mjavo embodies a rejection of toxic authority.

“I love collaborating with other talented individuals and trust their judgment. The best results come from listening, being challenged, and combining forces to create something unexpected. I want to build a fun, inclusive space where it’s okay to be silly!”

Mjavo is just getting started with plans for expansion, including more sustainable collections, global growth and exciting stockist and brand collaborations coming soon.

Felicia adds, “I envision Mjavo extending beyond accessories. Our philosophy is a mindset and lifestyle, rejecting hustle culture and the dominance of the loudest voice, which is often the most unoriginal.”
